TheGuyBooks is built out in the open, one month at a time. This page shows what is already live, what is being worked on right now, and what may come later.

Already live, still being built

TheGuyBooks is in beta, and it is live — real businesses run their books on it today: it is still being built in the open. Fixes and new features go live most days, and every update reaches everyone at once, so what you signed up for keeps getting better without you lifting a finger.

The number is live. It comes from our own record of what reached the live site — nobody types it in, and it drops on a quiet month.

The books are in beta and open for business: real businesses and real people keep their own books here today, and everything listed month by month below is already live.

The problems being worked on right now.

  • Typing a bill or a receipt in by hand when a photo or a file of it is already sitting right there.
  • One bank account and one card paying for both your life and your work, with no easy way to keep the two apart at tax time.
  • Money a supplier owes you back, with nowhere to put it until their next bill turns up.

  • Closing your account yourself, from inside the app, without having to ask anyone.
  • Reports that follow your own business year, for the people whose year does not run with the calendar.

Before the beta label comes off, every user hears from us first, and nothing you have set up changes.

  1. May 2026

    • First line of code.

  2. June 2026

    • Write an invoice, send it, and see at a glance who still owes you money.
    • Enter a bill, pay it, and see what you owe and when it is due.
    • Record a sale, a deposit, an expense or a check, and the bookkeeping behind it is done for you.
    • Tie your books out against your bank statement, and lock the month once the two agree.
    • The reports a business actually gets asked for: profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, and who owes what.
    • Attach a photo of a receipt to the record it belongs to, so the paper stays with the money.
    • Your own sign-in and password, on a screen that carries the brand you signed up with.

  3. July 2026

    • A whole library of reports instead of a handful: by customer, by supplier, by part of the business, and a one-page picture of the whole thing.
    • Set a report up the way you like it, save it, and open it that way every time after.
    • Turn any report into a PDF to send, or a spreadsheet file to work in.
    • Post a correction by hand when none of the ordinary forms fit, and fix one that was entered wrong.
    • A business that puts its own name on the books gets its own console to set them up and run them.
    • A call list of the customers who are due to hear from you, built out of what they already bought.
    • Tell us what is broken from inside the app, without hunting for an email address.

  4. August 2026

    • Connect your bank and the transactions arrive on their own, waiting to be filed.
    • Snap a receipt with your phone, and the date, the amount and who you paid come off the picture and onto the form.
    • Track your miles from your phone, and the deduction posts at the rate you set.
    • What is on the shelf: what you paid for it, what it is worth now, and what it cost you the day it sold.
    • People who work for themselves can sign up on their own, and the first thirty days are a trial.
    • Two-step sign-in: a code from the authenticator app on your phone, on top of your password.
    • Reports that email themselves on the day and the time you pick, with a one-click stop link on every one.
    • Type a sum straight into any amount box and it works the answer out for you.

  5. September 2026

    • A credit you enter by hand now pays down a customer's invoice and shows up in what they still owe.
    • See a report split into columns by month, by quarter or by year, side by side.
    • Print your call list and take it with you.
    • Mark a customer do not call, and they stay off every list, on the phone as well as on the laptop.
    • Amount boxes on a phone open the keyboard that actually has the symbols you need.
